(Epilepsy)

Chinese Zodiac

My little one is born on Friday, 28th March 2008.

Friday's child is loving and giving.

Chinese year of the Rat (Wu-Zi)

People born under the Chinese Zodiac sign of Rat are noted for their charm and attraction for the opposite sex. They are hardworking and consequently often financially wealthy. And are likely to be perfectionists. Rat people are easily angered and love to gossip. Their ambitions are big, and they are usually very successful. The Rat is very social and has many friends who he supports in generous ways. The family is important; a Rat is loyal to his family and will fight for it if needed. Corresponding Western sign is Sagittarius.

Those born under the year of the Rat are quick-witted, clever, charming, sharp and funny. They have excellent taste, are a good friend and are generous and loyal to others considered part of its pack. Motivated by money, can be greedy, is ever curious, seeks knowledge and welcomes challenges. Compatible with Dragon or Monkey. Imcompatible with Horse or Rabbit.

Personality
Occupying the 1st and most prominent position on the Chinese Zodiac, the Rat symbolizes such character traits as wit, imagination and curiosity. Rats have keen observation skills and with those skills they’re able to deduce much about other people and other situations. Overall, Rats are full of energy, talkative and charming but they have a tendency to become aggressive.

Rats are full of good advice but they will never share their troubles with others. They are honest individuals and they enjoy living for the moment. They’re also capable of surviving any situation.

Health
Overall Rats enjoy good health. They’re very active which helps keep them in shape and able to fight off sickness. They can at times be tense, aggressive, and full of nervous energy, conditions which can lead to stress. Regular exercise designed to calm will benefit Rats.

Career
Extremely perceptive and wise, Rats can focus on the big picture. That ability along with their good judgment enables Rats to solve problems before they arise. Rats focus on titles because titles translate into status and money; two motivating forces. Rats make excellent bosses. Routine halts their creativity so Rats need flexible positions that allow creativity. Good career choices include: administrator, director, manager, entrepreneur, broadcaster, writer, musician, stand-up comedian, politician, lawyer, researcher, and race car driver.

Relationships
Rats are very charming. They enjoy social activities and because they’re out a lot, they’re always meeting new people. They aren’t good at breaking off relationships however, and this presents problems going forward with new relationships. Anyone hoping to partner with a Rat must be able to keep up with the Rat’s active nature.

Rats and the 5 elements

Metal Rats – Years 1900 and 1960
Metal Rats are strong-willed individuals who are determined to get what they want, regardless of the cost. Intensively emotional, their behavior can border on extreme. Possessive feelings, envy and rage can cause problems. Relationships can be problematic as Metal Rats are obstinate.

Water Rats – Years 1912 and 1972
Water Rats are extremely influential. They’re smart and insightful which makes them excellent at problem-solving. Practical and understanding, Water Rats interact well with and are liked by others.

Wood Rats – Years 1924 and 1984
Not nearly as self-confident as they appear on the surface, Wood Rats will never expose this vulnerability to others. They’re successful despite their perpetual fear of failing. Wood Rats enjoy being with friends and family and fortunately for them, feelings of love and respect are mutual.

Fire Rats – Years 1936 and 1996
Fire Rats enjoy being spontaneous. They enjoy traveling and taking on new tasks and will take on practically any new project or adventure simply to avoid any sense of routine and monotony. They’re zestful, spirited, and giving individuals who are well-liked by others.

Earth Rats – Years 1948 and 2008
Earth Rats prefer a sense of stability, digging in and putting down roots early to help ensure a successful future. They believe that slow and steady is the best approach. Being spontaneous is an inbred trait, but this type of behavior does not suit Earth Rats.

Legends of the Chinese Zodiac Signs
The Chinese Lunar New Year is the longest chronological record in history, dating from 2600BC, when the Emperor Huang Ti introduced the first cycle of the zodiac.

The Chinese Lunar Calendar names each of the twelve years after an animal. The 12 Animals Signs are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.

Chinese Zodiac Signs Legend 1
There are many legends about the picking of the twelve signs. One legend has it that the Lord Buddha summoned all the animals to come to him before he departed from earth. Only twelve came to bid him farewell and as a reward he named a year after each one in the order they arrived.

Chinese Zodiac Signs Legend 2
According to another legend, many years ago Buddha summoned all the animals to a meeting in which he would designate the first 12 animals arriving, to be signs of a year respectively. On the night before the departure, cat notified his pal, rat, and they agreed that the one waking up first the next morning must awake the other so they can depart for the meeting together. However, rat broke his promise and arrived for the meeting alone. Then, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig arrived one after the other. When cat woke up and hurried there, the meeting was over. It is said that is the reason why the cat kills rats.

Chinese Zodiac Signs Legend 3
According to another Chinese legend, the twelve animals quarreled one day as to who was to head the cycle of years. The gods were asked to decide and they held a contest: whoever was to reach the opposite bank of the river would be first, and the rest of the animals would receive their years according to their finish.

All the twelve animals gathered at the river bank and jumped in. Unknown to the ox, the rat had jumped upon his back. As the ox was about to jump ashore, the rat jumped off the ox's back, and won the race. The pig, who was very lazy, ended up last. That is why the rat is the first year of the animal cycle, the ox second, and the pig last.

My comment:

I bath my baby 2 times a day, around 9am and 5pm. Before bathing my baby, I apply some herbal medicated oil onto the top of his soft spot and belly button. My parents also ask me to apply some onto his middle chest as well. After the bath and dry off baby's belly button, I apply again on the same 3 spots. It's believe to avoid wind goes inside the tummy.

Sometimes I see baby's head skin is dirty. Some dirt may even being peeled off easily by finger nails. It may be due to the usage of medicated oil for too many times and it has been added on some sweats of baby. So, I apply on some Drapolene to soften the dirt and peel them off carefully with comb.

Wilisan 100% Pure Glycerine

A clear, colourless, syrupy liquid with a sweet taste as a protective cleansing solution for oral hygiene.

Directions for Use:

Apply on the affected area 3 to 4 times daily. Use cotton wool soaked with glycerine to clean oral cavity, then rinse the mouth with water.

Precautions:

Do not swallow the glycerine in large amount, it may cause headache, nausea and vomiting.

My comment:

I always use it to clean my baby's milk stains on his tounge and mouth after his daily morning bath. I tried to taste the glycerine. It's mint flavoured. Since brushing is unavailable at the stage of newborn, we clean their tounge and mouth by rubbing this glycerine. After rubbing, I give a bottle of water for him to drink. He seems ok to it and like it. But, at the late first year of age, he refuse to rub with it. So, I switch to rub his tounge with only handkerchief during his bath.

GSK Drapolene Cream

Drapolene Cream is effective for the treatment and prevention of nappy rash. It also provides soothing relief for minor burns and wounds.

Nappy Rash
Babies have sensitive skins which need extra care. The nappy area is particularly prone to rashes and even the best kept babies get nappy rashes and sore bottoms from time to time.

Nappy rash is due to irritation of the skin by the chemical breakdown of urine through urine-splitting germs. At first, the skin is spotty red and moist, later becoming thick and wrinkled, then peeling at the edges.

Other complicating infections may develop if the tender skin is left unattended.

Drapolene contains 2 gentle, yet powerful antiseptics, which kill the urine-splitting germs. Drapolene treats and prevents the infection whilst it soothes and brings relief to baby’s tender skin.

Treatment Direction:
Change soiled napkin regularly. Wash and dry baby’s bottom and apply Drapolene Cream after every nappy change.

How to obtain best results with Drapolene Cream?
When applying Drapolene Cream, spread evenly paying particular attention to the folds of the skin. It is important to make sure that the affected area is dry and free from all traces of soap.

My comment:
Sometimes I see red spots on my baby's bottom skin. It may be caused by too frequent usage of diapers or putting on diapers for too long time. Sometimes when he has a constipation, the area around the hole became red. So, I apply some Drapolene evenly on the affected area.

It's seldom that my baby's folds of skin affected. The folds of skin are mostly affected due to urine-splitting.

I apply the Drapolene on my baby's skin whenever it's needed. Sometimes 3 times a day when the skin area became affected.

The Moment

My due date given is 2nd day of April. So, I decided to apply my maternity leave 1 week earlier and just relax myself in my home sweet home. But I just relaxed myself for only 1 day.

The moment actually came earlier 5 days. The water burst in the early of morning but there's no symptoms of pain at that moment. The doctor advised us to prepare for a ceasarian.

So, here he is. The little one is born by ceasarian on 28.03.2008. Wow, he cry out so loud at the moment and he's not actually "little" since he weight 3.5kg. Phew! Luckily I skipped the "pain process".

At the moment I witness the arrival of my little one, my tears drop automatically although he's not born by natural. It's the tears of happiness and relief. The most important is he's healthy.

Newborn Baby's Arrival

Year 2008 is the year of Mouse. The little one in my tummy is now almost 9 months. It's almost the time for the arrival of our little one. We are impatiently counting the days to the arrival of the latest addition to our family. We almost get well prepared to welcome the little one. I'm already blissfully enjoying my precious little sweetheart.

Week 40

My Baby's Development

After many weeks of anticipation and preparation, your baby is almost here! Or maybe not. Only 5% of pregnant women deliver baby on their estimated due dates. Many first-time mothers waiting up to 2 weeks after their due date for their baby to arrive.

A baby born at 40 weeks weighs about 7 pounds, 4 ounces (3,300g) on average and measures about 20 inches (51cm). Newborn baby often have heads temporarily misshapen from the birth canal and may be covered with vernix and blood. Your baby's skin may have skin discolorations, dry patches and rashes. These kind of variations are completely normal.

Your baby's genitals (scrotum in boys and labia in girls) may appear enlarged because of the presence of your hormones in your baby's system. Your baby, whether a boy or a girl, may even secrete milk from the tiny nipples. This should disappear in a few days and it is completely normal.

Right after your baby birth, the health care provider will suction mucus out of your baby's mouth and nose, and you'll hear that long-awaited first cry of your baby. Your baby may then be placed on your stomach. The umbilical cord between you and your baby will be cut. It is often cut by the baby's father, if he chooses to do the honors! A series of quick screening tests (such as the Apgar score) will be performed to assess your baby's responsiveness and vital signs. He or she will be weighed and measured. If your pregnancy was high risk or if a cesarean section was necessary, a neonatologist (a doctor who specializes in newborn intensive care) will be present at your delivery to take care of your baby right away. If your baby needs a special care to adjust to life outside the womb, it will be given. Then your newborn will be placed in your waiting arms.

My Body

This week will be the moment you've been anticipating — your introduction to your newborn baby! Before you can meet your newborn baby, you have to go through labor and delivery. You may have learned the three stages of birth in your prenatal classes. The first stage of labor of labor is to thin and stretch your cervix by contracting your uterus at regular intervals. The second stage is when you push your baby into the vaginal canal and out of your body. The third and final stage is when you deliver the placenta out of your body.

If you haven't go into labor within a week of your due date, the health care provider may recommend you receive a nonstress test. The nonstress test monitors fetal heart rate and movement to make sure that the baby is receiving adequate oxygen and that the nervous system is responding. Consult your health care provider to find out more about this test.

Sometimes mother nature may need a little coaxing. If your labor isn't progressing, or if your health or your baby's health requires it, your health care provider may induce labor by artificially rupturing the membranes or by administering the hormone oxytocin or other medications. If your pregnancy is high risk, or if there are any other potential complications, you may require a cesarean section delivery.

Some women know ahead of time that they will be delivering via cesarean section. So, they are able to schedule their baby's "birth day" well in advance. If you're one of them, you've probably been able to prepare yourself emotionally and mentally for the birth. It helps to lessen the feelings of disappointment that many mothers who are unable to deliver vaginally experience. But even if you have to undergo a cesarean section that wasn't planned, rest assured that you'll still be able to bond with your baby. It might not be the birth experience you imagined, but your beautiful newborn has arrived nonetheless. The months of waiting are over!

Good luck with your baby!

Week 39

My Baby's Development

Umbilical cords (which carry nutrients from the placenta to the baby) vary in size but average about 22 inches (55cm) long and half an inch (1-2cm) thick. The umbilical cord can become wrapped around a baby’s neck sometimes. Generally, it doesn’t cause problems, although a cesarean delivery could be required if it causes pressure on the umbilical cord during labor or delivery. A true knot in the umbilical cord is much less common, it occurs in only about 1% of pregnancies.

Most of the vernix that covered your baby's skin has disappeared, so as the lanugo hair. Your body has been supplying your baby with antibodies through the placenta. It helps the baby's immune system to fight infection for the first 6-12 months of life.

My Body

Braxton Hicks contractions may become more pronounced by this week. These false labor contractions may be as painful and strong as true labor contractions. But the contractions do not become regular and do not increase in frequency as true contractions do.

The rupture of your amniotic sac is another sign of labor. It could happen any day from now. When the water breaks, some pregnant women experience a large gush of water and some feel a steady trickle. Many of them don’t experience their water breaking until they are well into labor. Some of them need to have their water broken by the health care providers to get their labor started or to speed it up. If you think your water has broken or you are experiencing regular contractions, you better contact your health care provider now.

Preparation for the confinement

Once the little one is born, I'll be transfered to confinement centre directly. Just before the little one was born, I have listed down all the necessary things that may be useful during my confinement.

If you think the list is complete, copy them for your reference later. The necessary items includes:-

Sarung, jacket, socks, long gloves, T-shirt, towel,...

Slippers, bra, paper underwear, maternity pads,...

Hair comb, hair powder wash, hair pin,...

Breast pump(manually or electronically), breast feeding milk powder,

Facial cleanser, moisturizer, toothpaste, toothbrush,...

Handphone charger, magazines,...

and other necessities that the confinment centre don't provide for you.

Week 38

My Baby's Development

By week 38, your baby weighs about 6 pounds, 6 ounces (2,900g) and measures about 13.4 inches (34cm) in length from crown to rump. Although your baby’s growth is slower now, fat is still accumulating. Your weight gain may has decreased or ceased at this week.

Since your baby’s muscles are able to suck and swallow amniotic fluid, waste material is being accumulated in his or her intestines. Lanugo hair, dead skin cells and cells shed from the intestines are some of the waste products that contribute to meconium (a greenish-black substance) that constitutes your baby's first bowel movement.

If you're having a baby boy, his testicles have descended into the scrotum (unless he has a condition called undescended testicle). If you're having a baby girl, the labia are now completely developed.

My Body

By this week, making frequent bathroom trips a necessity because your baby is engaged in your pelvis and thus your bladder is extremely compressed.

Have you and your partner made a decision of circumcision? Circumcision is a surgical procedure to remove the foreskin of the penis in baby boy. For some parents the decision to circumcise is a religious one. For others, the choice is not as easily made. Consult your health care provider about the issues of circumcision, including pain relief options for the baby.

Monday, March 03, 2008

Week 37

My Baby's Development

By week 37, your baby is considered full-term! But your baby hasn't stopped growing yet. He or she continues to develop fat at the average of half an ounce (14g) a day. Generally, boys weigh more than girls at birth.

Your baby has developed enough coordination to grasp with the fingers. If a bright light shown, your baby may turn toward it in your uterus.

My Body

After this week, you may lose the mucous plug which sealed off your uterus from infection. The mucous plug can be lost a few weeks, days or hours before labor. It is thick, yellowish and may be tinged with blood (the mucous plug is also called bloody show). The plug is discharged from your body as the cervix dilates in preparation for labor. Be sure to consult your health care provider about any discharge you may be having.

BMI = 体重(KG)/ < 身高(M) X 身高(M)>

Week 36

My Baby's Development

The wrinkly and tiny fetus you may have seen on earlier ultrasounds has become an almost plump baby. There is fat on your baby’s cheeks. Powerful sucking muscles also contribute to your baby's full face. Your baby now weighs a little under 6 pounds (2,721g).

The bones that make up your baby’s skull can move relatively to one another and overlap each other while your baby’s head is inside your pelvis. This phenomenon is called molding. It helps the baby pass through the birth canal. Don't be surprised if your baby arrives with a misshapen or pointy head! Your baby's head will be back to a rounded shape after a few hours or days.

My Body

Starting this week, you may be requested to see your health care provider weekly. Your doctor or midwife may have an internal exam on you. This is done to determine if cervical effacement (thinning of the cervix) or dilation (opening of the cervix) has begun. You may experience engagement (also known as lightening). Lightening is when the baby drops into the mother's pelvis in preparation for labor. Your appetite may return since your baby is no longer putting much pressure on your stomach and intestines. If you've been experiencing heartburn, your baby's descent may somewhat alleviate it.

Monday, February 18, 2008

Week 35

My Baby's Development

Your baby already weighs about 5 pounds, 5 ounces (2,400g). By this week onwards, it is your baby's most rapid period of weight gain — about 8 to 12 ounces (226 to 340g) each week! This is because the fat is being deposited all over your baby's body, especially around the shoulders.

Due to this increasing size, your baby is now cramped and restricted inside the uterus. So, fetal movements may decrease, but they may be stronger and more forceful. If your baby is in a head-first position, his or her head will rest on your pubic bone in preparation for labor.

My Body

You may already feel the bond with the baby growing inside of you. It will even grow stronger once your baby is born. Bonding (the intense attachment that develops between you and your baby) is not something that only occurs within minutes or days after birth. Bonding may happen later and it may develop over time. Bonding not only makes you want to protect your baby, but it also fosters your baby's sense of security in the world outside your womb.

Monday, February 11, 2008

Week 34

My Baby's Development

Maternal calcium intake is extremely important during your pregnancy since your baby will draw calcium from the mother to make and harden their bone. If you doesn't get enough calcium during pregnancy, it can affect your own bones because the developing fetus will take minerals from the mother's skeletal structure as needed.
The vernix coating on your baby's skin is becoming thicker, whereas lanugo hair is almost completely gone.

By week 34, most babies will be in their position for delivery. Your health care provider can tell if your baby is positioned head-first or bottom-first. Babies born at this week usually have fairly well-developed lungs. The average size of 5 pounds (2,250g) and 12.6 inches (32cm) from crown to rump allows them to survive outside the womb without extensive medical intervention.

My Body

Fatigue is a common complaint during your late pregnancy. Difficulty in sleeping, aches and pains, weight gain, anxiety about labor and delivery, and taking care of a newborn may contribute to your exhaustion. When it occur, rest as much as you can and take naps if possible.

Monday, February 04, 2008

Week 33

My Baby's Development

In these last few weeks before delivery, the billions of developed neurons in your baby's brain are able to learn about the in-utero environment. Your baby can listen, feel and even see somewhat. Your baby’s eyes can detect light, the pupils can constrict and dilate in response to light. Like a newborn, your baby sleeps much of the time and even experiences the rapid eye movement (REM) stage (the sleep stage during which our most vivid dreams occur).

Your baby's lungs are almost completely matured by this week. Fat will continue to be deposited on your baby's body for protection and warmth. Babies gain a good deal of their weight in the final few weeks before birth.

My Body

With labor and delivery only 2 months away, how you'll cope with the pain during childbirth? You need to learn about the most commonly used techniques for pain relief. These techniques include breathing techniques (such as those taught in Lamaze classes), pain-relief medications given through injection and epidurals, where doctors can give an anesthetic by means of a soft, thin catheter that's placed in your lower back. Whatever your ultimate choice, the more you know, your decision can be better informed. Although you don't have to make a decision yet, consult your health care provider now about your choices.

Monday, January 28, 2008

Week 32

My Baby's Development

The final touches are placing on your baby’s masterpiece. Eyelashes, eyebrows and the hair are the evident. The lanugo hair (covered your baby since the beginning of the second trimester) is falling off, but some may remain on the shoulders and back at birth.

At about 4 pounds (1,800g) and 11.4 inches (29cm) from crown to rump, your baby would have an excellent chance of survival outside the womb if you labor now.

My Body

During your prenatal visits, your health care provider will monitor your blood pressure, urine and any swelling that may develop. Sudden weight gain, swelling in the hands or face, headaches or changes in vision can be symptoms of preeclampsia. These conditions cause a high blood pressure and protein in the urine. Be sure to consult your health care provider if you experience any of these symptoms, since these conditions can affect both the mother and fetus in the second half of pregnancy.

Monday, January 21, 2008

Week 31

My Baby's Development

By week 31, your baby is urinating approximately several cups of urine a day into the amniotic fluid. It is also swallowing amniotic fluid, which means the fluid is completely replaced several times a day. Excess fluid in the amniotic sac (polyhydramnios) may mean your baby isn't swallowing normally or that there is a gastrointestinal obstruction. Inadequate fluid in the amniotic sac (oligohydramnios) may mean your baby isn't urinating properly and could indicate a problem with the kidneys or urinary tract. Measuring of the levels of your amniotic fluid will be a part of the routine ultrasound.

My Body

Have you decided whether to breastfeed or formula feed your baby? Although it is recommended that breast milk is the best form of infant nutrition, the decision about how to feed your child is a personal one. Consult your health care provider or a lactation consultant if you need more information in making your choice.

The milk glands in your breasts have started to make colostrum by now. Colostrum is a pre-milk that provides your baby with calories and nutrients for its first few days before your milk comes in for breastfeeding. For some mum, the colostrum is thin and watery. For others, it is thick and yellowish. If your breasts are leaking colostrum, you may buy disposable or washable breast pads to protect your clothing.

Monday, January 14, 2008

Week 30

My Baby's Development

By week 30, your baby is now weighing about 3 pounds (1,400g) and measuring about 10.8 inches (27cm) from crown to rump. It continues to gain weight and layers of fat. The fat makes the baby look less wrinkly and helps provide warmth after birth.
In preparation for respiration after birth, your baby will mimic breathing movements by moving the diaphragm repeatedly. Your baby can even get the hiccups, which you may feel like rhythmic twitches in your uterus as well

My Body

Constipation is a common complaint of pregnant women. The pregnancy hormones which allow you to maintain the pregnancy also slow down your digestive process considerably. Regular exercises and eat foods with high fiber (such as vegetables and whole grains) are great ways to keep everything regular.

Scan Result

When i go for a monthly maternity check-up, i ask for a printed scan result of the little one.

The little one is now 5 months old. It's the time when the gender shows.

Doctor said :"The little one is in the position of facing down.
You can see there's a circle & a line. It's a boy. Believe me, ok?"

Foetal Development

First Trimester
0-4 Weeks
Once the fertilized egg embeds itself into the lining of the uterus, the cells begins to divide rapidly. The formation of the foetus’s body parts commences. The embryo, as the egg is called, can be seen by the naked eye by the 4th week. The head and tail emerges together with an attached yolk sac which provides food for the embryo until the placenta is fully developed.

5-8 Weeks
The embryo is about 2mm long by the 5th week. The heart can now be seen beating and circulating blood via an ultrasound scan. The head is almost taking its final shape: the spinal cord and the brain are growing swiftly. Towards the end of this month, the embryo has grown to the size of a one-dollar coin and the first minute movements of the spine become evident.

9-12 Weeks
By the 11th week, the foetus, as it is called now, resembles a small human being and is about 5.5cm long. The baby’s muscles have begun to develop and its mevements are gradually becoming stronger. It is also starting to respond to your strong body movements. By the end of this month, the foetus is about 7.5cm long and weighs around 14g plus all the major organs are completely formed.

Second Trimester
13-16 Weeks
The role of nourishing the foetus is now taken over by the fully developed placenta. The foetus is now 16cm long, is covered in a fine downy hair (lanugo), and has fingernails and toenails. The foetus, placenta and waters fill up the whole of the uterus. The foetus starts to swallow and pass urine. It begins to experience the food you eat as it recognizes the corresponding sensations of the smell and taste of each food.

17-20 Weeks
The mother starts to feel her baby squirming inside as the baby stretches and exercises its limbs. The foetus is now 25cm in length and weighs 340g. The foetus’s eyes are still tightly closed whilst its hair has started to grow and its teeth are starting to form. By the end of this month, the foetus will be half of its length at birth.

21-24 Weeks
The foetus now has clear-cut periods of sleep and wakefulness. Besides the mother’s heartbeat and blood circulation, sudden loud noises and music or other sounds can probably be heard by the foetus and it begins to react to these external sounda. If the foetus were to be delivered prematurely, special care is needed if it is to have a chance of survival. By the end of this month, the foetus is approximately 33cm long. It can now open its eyes and as its eyesight improves, it is aware of light changes outside the womb.

25-28 Weeks
The mother will be able to feel the foetus more: maybe the foetus’s hiccups can be felt or since its kicks are getting much stronger, it can be felt by placing a hand on the mother’s belly. The foetus is swathed in a fatty substance (vernix) which protects its skin from the amniotic fluid. It is now about 37cm, the length of a rolling pin.

Third Trimester
29-32 Weeks
The foetus is now fully developed. It is ready to take its first breath as its lungs starts to mature. It could be sucking its thumb. The baby now weighs about 1.6kg and measures approximately 38cm.

33-36 Weeks
The foetus I snow passing urine, swallowing fluid and blinking its eyes. To regulate its body temperature better after birth, it still needs to put on more weight. As it now fills up the whole womb and is unable to twist and turn more freely, its position in the uterus is final. As the baby stretches its limbs, you can now tell whether the protrusion on the mother’s belly is a hand or foot.

37-40 WeeksExcept perhaps for the shoulders, the lanugo has usually vanished by now. The foetus is tucked snugly into a ball looking pink and round. The baby is ready to emerge from the womb once its head descends into the mother’s pelvis (“engages”). When this happens, the mother may be able to breathe more easily.

Monday, January 07, 2008

Week 29

My Baby's Development

Your baby continues to be active in the womb. Those first few flutters of movement have given way to hard jabs and punches that may take your breath away. If you notice the movements in your womb decrease, do a fetal kick count (your baby should move at least 10 times in an hour). If your baby moves less, consult your health care provider faster.

My Body

Iron is important for replenishing the red blood cell supply during your pregnancy. You should be eating iron at least 30 milligrams per day. Since iron deficiency is common during pregnancy, your health care provider may recommend that you receive a blood test to check your iron level. If your iron level is low, you may be given an iron supplement.
