Confinement Center

Few days after the ceasarian, I move in to stay in a confinement center in Sg. Dua, Butterworth.

It's good to stay in a confinement center. We share a lot of stories and I gain a lot of benefits from the stay.

Here's some of the babies in the confinement center.

He Looks Like Who?

Does he looks like mummy?
or
Does he looks like daddy?
When he was born, his eyeline is very long.
Hence people say he looks like daddy.
But when he grow up later on, people say he looks like mummy.
Then what do u think?

The Moment

My due date given is 2nd day of April. So, I decided to apply my maternity leave 1 week earlier and just relax myself in my home sweet home. But I just relaxed myself for only 1 day.

The moment actually came earlier 5 days. The water burst in the early of morning but there's no symptoms of pain at that moment. The doctor advised us to prepare for a ceasarian.

So, here he is. The little one is born by ceasarian on 28.03.2008. Wow, he cry out so loud at the moment and he's not actually "little" since he weight 3.5kg. Phew! Luckily I skipped the "pain process".

At the moment I witness the arrival of my little one, my tears drop automatically although he's not born by natural. It's the tears of happiness and relief. The most important is he's healthy.

Newborn Baby's Arrival

Year 2008 is the year of Mouse. The little one in my tummy is now almost 9 months. It's almost the time for the arrival of our little one. We are impatiently counting the days to the arrival of the latest addition to our family. We almost get well prepared to welcome the little one. I'm already blissfully enjoying my precious little sweetheart.

Week 40

My Baby's Development

After many weeks of anticipation and preparation, your baby is almost here! Or maybe not. Only 5% of pregnant women deliver baby on their estimated due dates. Many first-time mothers waiting up to 2 weeks after their due date for their baby to arrive.

A baby born at 40 weeks weighs about 7 pounds, 4 ounces (3,300g) on average and measures about 20 inches (51cm). Newborn baby often have heads temporarily misshapen from the birth canal and may be covered with vernix and blood. Your baby's skin may have skin discolorations, dry patches and rashes. These kind of variations are completely normal.

Your baby's genitals (scrotum in boys and labia in girls) may appear enlarged because of the presence of your hormones in your baby's system. Your baby, whether a boy or a girl, may even secrete milk from the tiny nipples. This should disappear in a few days and it is completely normal.

Right after your baby birth, the health care provider will suction mucus out of your baby's mouth and nose, and you'll hear that long-awaited first cry of your baby. Your baby may then be placed on your stomach. The umbilical cord between you and your baby will be cut. It is often cut by the baby's father, if he chooses to do the honors! A series of quick screening tests (such as the Apgar score) will be performed to assess your baby's responsiveness and vital signs. He or she will be weighed and measured. If your pregnancy was high risk or if a cesarean section was necessary, a neonatologist (a doctor who specializes in newborn intensive care) will be present at your delivery to take care of your baby right away. If your baby needs a special care to adjust to life outside the womb, it will be given. Then your newborn will be placed in your waiting arms.

My Body

This week will be the moment you've been anticipating — your introduction to your newborn baby! Before you can meet your newborn baby, you have to go through labor and delivery. You may have learned the three stages of birth in your prenatal classes. The first stage of labor of labor is to thin and stretch your cervix by contracting your uterus at regular intervals. The second stage is when you push your baby into the vaginal canal and out of your body. The third and final stage is when you deliver the placenta out of your body.

If you haven't go into labor within a week of your due date, the health care provider may recommend you receive a nonstress test. The nonstress test monitors fetal heart rate and movement to make sure that the baby is receiving adequate oxygen and that the nervous system is responding. Consult your health care provider to find out more about this test.

Sometimes mother nature may need a little coaxing. If your labor isn't progressing, or if your health or your baby's health requires it, your health care provider may induce labor by artificially rupturing the membranes or by administering the hormone oxytocin or other medications. If your pregnancy is high risk, or if there are any other potential complications, you may require a cesarean section delivery.

Some women know ahead of time that they will be delivering via cesarean section. So, they are able to schedule their baby's "birth day" well in advance. If you're one of them, you've probably been able to prepare yourself emotionally and mentally for the birth. It helps to lessen the feelings of disappointment that many mothers who are unable to deliver vaginally experience. But even if you have to undergo a cesarean section that wasn't planned, rest assured that you'll still be able to bond with your baby. It might not be the birth experience you imagined, but your beautiful newborn has arrived nonetheless. The months of waiting are over!

Good luck with your baby!

Week 39

My Baby's Development

Umbilical cords (which carry nutrients from the placenta to the baby) vary in size but average about 22 inches (55cm) long and half an inch (1-2cm) thick. The umbilical cord can become wrapped around a baby’s neck sometimes. Generally, it doesn’t cause problems, although a cesarean delivery could be required if it causes pressure on the umbilical cord during labor or delivery. A true knot in the umbilical cord is much less common, it occurs in only about 1% of pregnancies.

Most of the vernix that covered your baby's skin has disappeared, so as the lanugo hair. Your body has been supplying your baby with antibodies through the placenta. It helps the baby's immune system to fight infection for the first 6-12 months of life.

My Body

Braxton Hicks contractions may become more pronounced by this week. These false labor contractions may be as painful and strong as true labor contractions. But the contractions do not become regular and do not increase in frequency as true contractions do.

The rupture of your amniotic sac is another sign of labor. It could happen any day from now. When the water breaks, some pregnant women experience a large gush of water and some feel a steady trickle. Many of them don’t experience their water breaking until they are well into labor. Some of them need to have their water broken by the health care providers to get their labor started or to speed it up. If you think your water has broken or you are experiencing regular contractions, you better contact your health care provider now.

Preparation for the confinement

Once the little one is born, I'll be transfered to confinement centre directly. Just before the little one was born, I have listed down all the necessary things that may be useful during my confinement.

If you think the list is complete, copy them for your reference later. The necessary items includes:-

Sarung, jacket, socks, long gloves, T-shirt, towel,...

Slippers, bra, paper underwear, maternity pads,...

Hair comb, hair powder wash, hair pin,...

Breast pump(manually or electronically), breast feeding milk powder,

Facial cleanser, moisturizer, toothpaste, toothbrush,...

Handphone charger, magazines,...

and other necessities that the confinment centre don't provide for you.

Week 38

My Baby's Development

By week 38, your baby weighs about 6 pounds, 6 ounces (2,900g) and measures about 13.4 inches (34cm) in length from crown to rump. Although your baby’s growth is slower now, fat is still accumulating. Your weight gain may has decreased or ceased at this week.

Since your baby’s muscles are able to suck and swallow amniotic fluid, waste material is being accumulated in his or her intestines. Lanugo hair, dead skin cells and cells shed from the intestines are some of the waste products that contribute to meconium (a greenish-black substance) that constitutes your baby's first bowel movement.

If you're having a baby boy, his testicles have descended into the scrotum (unless he has a condition called undescended testicle). If you're having a baby girl, the labia are now completely developed.

My Body

By this week, making frequent bathroom trips a necessity because your baby is engaged in your pelvis and thus your bladder is extremely compressed.

Have you and your partner made a decision of circumcision? Circumcision is a surgical procedure to remove the foreskin of the penis in baby boy. For some parents the decision to circumcise is a religious one. For others, the choice is not as easily made. Consult your health care provider about the issues of circumcision, including pain relief options for the baby.

Week 37

My Baby's Development

By week 37, your baby is considered full-term! But your baby hasn't stopped growing yet. He or she continues to develop fat at the average of half an ounce (14g) a day. Generally, boys weigh more than girls at birth.

Your baby has developed enough coordination to grasp with the fingers. If a bright light shown, your baby may turn toward it in your uterus.

My Body

After this week, you may lose the mucous plug which sealed off your uterus from infection. The mucous plug can be lost a few weeks, days or hours before labor. It is thick, yellowish and may be tinged with blood (the mucous plug is also called bloody show). The plug is discharged from your body as the cervix dilates in preparation for labor. Be sure to consult your health care provider about any discharge you may be having.

BMI = 体重(KG)/ < 身高(M) X 身高(M)>
